Brent Fergurson (NASA Johnson Space Center, Houston)

Mr. Fergurson is the Test Director of the Neutral Buoyancy Laboratory, which is responsible for training Astronauts and Cosmonauts for space walks using underwater simulations. He also works closely with the National Undersea Research Center which operates the Aquarius underwater habitat for technology exchange. He will speak on aspects of Astronaut training which involve doing specific underwater tasks in NASA's neutral buoyancy tank (a 200' x 100' x 40' deep water tank). It holds 6.2 million gallons of water, including a space shuttle payload bay mock-up and international space station mock-ups.

Webster Aquatic Center, registration required for pool activities, fee charged.

Pool activities include scuba diving*, free swim, snorkeling, lifesaving merit badge tasks, water basketball, water volleyball, kayak and canoe races, plus many space and water related activities. In addition to Discover Scuba for novice divers, there will be an opportunity for qualified Venturers to dive on an underwater model of the space shuttle Columbia.

Cub Scouts, Boy Scouts and Venturers (co-ed) are invited to participate in this overnight event with pre-registration and fee. Friends and family may observe the activities free of charge from the Aquatic Center grandstands.

All scuba diving activities are conducted by Stryker Scuba Adventures, which has the sole responsibility for accepting candidates for this event. An extra fee of $10 is charged for scuba.
